Dear Reader,
2020 is proving to be quite a year - the impact on the chemicals and life sciences industries will not be fully appreciated for years to come but there is a wealth of interesting comment and opinion out there at the moment (see our "recommended reading" section below).
The commentators are almost universal in their opinion that there will be change - and often in the form of the acceleration of existing trends. For example, the reshoring of supply chains, moving to sustainable manufacturing practices, and digitization.
The events of this year could prove the trigger point for a whole host of businesses that were waiting for the 'moment to strike', for the line to reach 'critical mass'.
Adapting to the changing landscape may prove ever more challenging if multiple disrupting technologies and business models take off in the way their owners hope.
